Shipping artwork by sea is a less expensive form of international transportation than by air, although it obviously involves much more transit time. However, in some cases, it is usually the appropriate solution for the transfer of complete art exhibitions or made up of a large number of works. The pieces can be packaged in 20- or 40-foot containers that can house collections and large items and significant weights.

We work with the most important maritime companies in the world, which allows us to offer reliable and efficient navigation routes for our clients.

We offer "door to door" services, that is, when the client has their own customs agent to take care of the release of the merchandise.

We manage FCL loads (full container of 20, 40 and 40 foot High Cube) or LCL that allows you to share a container and benefit from the shared cost since you only pay for the space you use. If the shipments are outside the standard measurements of a container, we advise the client on the use of open containers (open top), flat racks, platforms or refrigerated, providing the necessary equipment both in the loading and unloading places. For the shipment of personal effects, you can benefit from the LCL service when it comes to small loads or, alternatively, full container loads for large removals.

Air Transport

Shipping artwork by air is faster, which can be attractive for clients who require urgent delivery of artwork or those who organize art exhibitions that last for a limited time.

Our company deals with and handles everything related to documentation, customs declarations, and import / export requirements, which makes this means of shipping a comfortable and efficient service. Our staff supervises and manages the security of cargo at airports to guarantee the correct packaging and conditioning of the works of art once verified by customs officials, control of palletizing and de- palletizing, loading and unloading on planes, both at departure and arrival.

Our mission includes freight booking, cargo security, documentation supervision and control, as well as coordination and monitoring of the shipment to its final destination.

On international flights, factors such as:

  • If the flight is direct or involves stopovers
  • Time of departure and arrival of the flight. Keep in mind that a cargo flight does not usually have precise takeoff and landing times.
  • If the flight is delayed for any reason, what are the necessary measures to guarantee the safety of the cargo under customs authority.
  • Delivery time for departure, depending on the airline, the airport and the dimensions of the cargo, an advance delivery of 24 hours may be required.
  • Pick-up period upon arrival at the destination airport
  • Airport accreditations that allow access to all areas of the airport for supervision both at the exit where we take care of controlling the cargo on the plane and on arrival, from the landing of the plane to the loading on trucks for transfer to the destination final.
  • In the case of shipments of high economic and/or artistic value, we offer the escort or courier service that accompanies the cargo on the same flight to its final destination and supervises the entire logistics process of transfer.

Local transportation

Our goal: a work of art should travel the shortest possible distance. In order to comply with this premise, the following factors are taken into account:

  • The collection and delivery times specified by the client.
  • The time spent at each destination (packing, unpacking, handling) plus loading and unloading time.
  • The distance between the different points to travel, safe places, etc.
  • The foreseeable average speed and accepted by current regulations.
  • The regulatory driving times determined by official provisions.
  • Traffic and parking regulations in big cities
  • The regular routes established by ART LOGISTICS S.A.
  • Type of vehicle required for transportation, because if it is a van, truck, platform or crane, the corresponding circulation authorizations must be processed.
  • Loads are classified according to their weight, width, height and length. This makes it possible to determine if there are routing restrictions, that is, if the vehicle can circulate alone or must be accompanied by a guide vehicle.

Customs formalities

Our commitment is to adequately advise Museums, exhibition organizers, gallery owners and private owners in relation to the legal procedures and authorizations required for works of art and other cultural assets to leave the country, either temporarily or permanently.

In our country, as in others, the circulation of works of art is regulated and control is exercised jointly by the National Ministry of Culture and Customs. There are various stages that must be carried out in order to comply with the provisions of official agencies and customs procedures.

In this way, administrative and customs procedures are an important part of our business and carrying them out requires knowledge, skill and experience. Our commitment is to adequately advise the client to carry out these procedures effectively.

We process from standard customs declarations to exceptional procedures. Indeed, in some cases the international shipment of fine arts requires permits such as CITES, which regulates aspects related to wildlife and endangered species, or an Export License for works of art, ancient cultural assets, or archaeological pieces, whose objective is control the historical or artistic patrimony of a country.

To guarantee these shipments, we have customs agents in the main art centers in the world, which guarantees a fast movement and an efficient delivery of such goods, in accordance with the regulations in force in each country.

Packaging

Our company offers quality packaging, customized, designed and built to measure, especially suitable for the type of parts to be transported. From standard single-use packaging or flexible packaging for objects of all shapes and sizes to boxes required by international museums for the transfer of their works.

We understand that the key to ensuring the safe transport of works of art lies in expert packaging and handling.

In fact, the central components of this logistics process are the packing and packaging of the works of art and a professional knowledge about the weaknesses of the article, cracks, potential breakages and other aspects. This is why our experience as professional transporters of works of art indicates that a soft packing plan must first be prepared to allow the movement of the goods. For the primary contact with the work, non-abrasive materials are used for soft packaging such as bubble wrap, PH-neutral fabrics, blankets, and foam padding.

Subsequently, our experienced technicians use a three-layer packaging technique. What is exposed protects the pieces from scratches, dust, humidity, temperature and unwanted marks.

Although the professional packaging and handling of works of art are very important aspects of the shipment logistics process, sometimes they are not enough to protect them when they are in transit. For these reasons, wooden packaging is often required and each work or antique must be treated independently, depending on its weight, size and other physical properties.
